Project Management
Project Management is a diverse field of study that is focused on ensuring the success of a project from its inception through to its completion across all industry facets. Being a broad field of study that is involved across in all industries, the Project Management Institute (PMI) regulates the standards for universal Project Management through publicized Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) guidelines. However, specific industries can adopt the generic PMBOK guide and tailor-customize it to suite their industry needs.
A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result. Project Management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet project requirements. Successful project management means meeting all three goals which are scope, time, and scope in order to satisfy the project sponsor. There are five project management phases: Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring, and Closing.

Requirements for Studying IT Project Management
The minimum requirement for entrance to the Bachelor of Science degree programme is a minimum of six passes in the I.G.C.S.E./S.G.C.S.E which must include a C grade or better in English Language, Mathematics and any other two science subjects. The minimum entry qualification to the diploma in computer science programme is IGCSE credits (i.e. symbol C or better) in Mathematics, Physics or Physical Science, and at least a pass (i.e.symbol E or better) in English Language.

Information Technology project management opens up a wide variety of career choices for experienced personnel in the following areas:
  • Project Manager: the person in overall charge of the planning and execution of a particular project.
  • Chief Information Officer: A chief information officer (CIO) is the corporate executive in charge of information technology strategy and implementation. In addition to overseeing the hardware, software and data that helps other members of the C-suite do their jobs effectively, the CIO must research new technologies, strategize how technology can provide business value and address the risks associated with digital information.
  • Business Analyst: A business analyst (BA) is someone who analyzes an organization or business domain (real or hypothetical) and documents its business or processes or systems, assessing the business model or its integration with technology.
Project Management for IT Personnel
Conceptualizing project management for IT projects involves understanding the project environment, such as using a systems approach, understanding organizations, managing stakeholders, matching product life cycles to the project environment, understanding the context of IT projects, and reviewing recent trends that affect IT project management. In addition, many IT professionals ignore important business questions, such as, “Does it make financial sense to pursue this new technology?” or “Should the company develop this software in-house or purchase it off the shelf?” Using a more holistic ap-proach helps project managers integrate business and organizational issues into their planning.
Unlike projects in many other industries, IT projects can be very diverse. Some involve a small number of people installing off-the-shelf hardware and associated software. Others involve hundreds of people analyzing several organizations’ business processes and then developing new software in a collaborative effort with users to meet business needs.
